Use your precious human life while you have the chance

Just remember that the past is dead, and the future unborn, hence both are not, and both are illusions

🌹Most humans are never fully present in the now because unconsciously they believe that the next moment must be more important than this one.
But then you miss your whole life, which is never not now.

When a journalist asked Eckhart Tolle to summarize his teaching, he said—Treat this moment as a Friend, not your enemy. How you treat life is how life will treat you back for Life is a Mirror.

Whenever you are immersed in compulsive thinking, you are avoiding what is. You don’t want to be where you are. Here and Now.

This one moment – Now – is the only thing you can never escape from, the one constant factor in your life. No matter what happens, no matter how much your life changes, one thing is certain: it’s always Now.

Since there is no escape from the Now, why not welcome it, and be friendly with it?

The division of life into past, present and future is mind-made and ultimately illusionary.

~ Eckhart Tolle

🌹 Go on dying to the past and never think of the future – and then try to be miserable. You will fail. You cannot be miserable.

We miss the reality between these waverings of past and future. Reality is here and now.

Past should be a learning experience and not an everlasting punishment. Just remember that the past is dead, and the future unborn, hence both are not, and both are illusions. One can remember the past or plan for the future, but at the same time, it should not eat our present moment.

Limited meditation

If we really want to be sublime meditators, we should not set a time period for our meditation, as it is the modern meditator’s style. We should not count the hours or minutes because limited time makes limited meditation. Our ordering, limited gross and subtle elements’ mind cannot release itself into the sublime, limitless, secret essence of the elements if we are bound by exact time. If our mind is bound by anything, it is never vast. If we are trapped and limited by time, place and direction, how can we have Wisdom Mind confidence? How can we understand other people’s faculties and benefit other beings? How can we help limited mind with limited meditation mind.

Existing in each instant of time

Shikantaza, our zazen, is just to be ourselves. When we do not expect anything we can be ourselves. That is our way, to live fully in each moment of time. This practice continues forever. We say, “each moment”, but in your actual practice, a “moment” is too long because in that “moment” your mind is already involved in following the next breath. So we say, even in a snap of your fingers there are millions of instants of time. This way we can emphasize the feeling of existing in each instant of time.

Time is life

“Many people cannot allow themselves the time to sit and do nothing but breathe. They consider it to be uneconomical or a luxury. People say “time is money.” But time is much more than money. Time is life. The simple practice of sitting quietly on a regular basis can be profoundly healing. Stopping and sitting is a good way to focus on mindful breathing and nothing else.”

Every moment is the timeless and infinite

At the heart of every experience and
every moment is the timeless and infinite,
as the sages throughout the ages sing out in a single chorus!
What keeps us, keeps me, from experiencing
and singing it out right now?
Nothing.

Time is always moving on; nothing can stop it. We can’t change the past, but we can shape the future. The more compassionate you are, the more you will find inner peace.

The three times are equal

Since the time we were born from our mother’s womb, the only thing we have seen is the present. We have never seen the past and we have never seen the future. Wherever we are, whatever time it is, it is only the present.

The present does not remain beyond a single instant [snaps fingers]. That is why the three times are the same. You must remember that the three times are equal.

To dwell in the here and now does not mean you never think about the past

“To dwell in the here and now does not mean you never think about the past, or responsibly plan for the future. The idea is simply not to allow yourself to get lost in regrets about the past or worries about the future… The most precious gift we can offer others is our presence. When mindfulness embraces those we love, they will bloom like flowers.”
