Healing

We have incredible freedom to develop our minds in any way we desire

Since healing comes essentially from our mind, not from our body, it’s important to understand the nature of the mind. The intrinsic nature of the mind is pure, in the sense that it is not one with the defects of the mind, with disturbing thoughts and obscures. All the defects of our mind — selfishness, ignorance, anger, attachment, guilt, and other disturbing thoughts — are temporary, not permanent and eternal. And since the cause of our suffering, disturbing thoughts and obscures, is temporary, so is our suffering.
The mind is also empty of real existence, of existence on its own side. This quality of the mind, known as the Nature of the Buddha, gives us the potential to completely free ourselves from all suffering, including disease, and from the causes of suffering and to achieve whatever happiness we desire, including that of enlightenment. Because the mind has so much potential, we don’t have to be depressed or hopeless. It’s not like we have to experience problems forever. We have incredible freedom to develop our minds in any way we desire. It’s just a matter of finding the right way to harness the potential of our minds.”

Stopping is the basic Buddhist practice of meditation

May be an image of 1 person and text that says 'Stopping is the basic Buddhist practice of meditation. You stop running. You stop struggling You allow yourself to rest, to heal, to calm. THICH NHAT HANH'

It’s just like that

Things falling apart is a kind of testing and also a kind of healing. We think that the point is to pass the test or to overcome the problem, but the truth is that things don’t really get solved. They come together and they fall apart. Then they come together again and fall apart again. It’s just like that. The healing comes from letting there be room for all of this to happen: room for grief, for relief, for misery, for joy.

Medicine Buddha Mantra

Tayata
Om Bekandze Bekandze
Maha Bekandze
Radza Samundgate Soha

May the many sentient beings who are sick,
Quickly be freed from sickness.
And may all the sicknesses of beings
Never arise again.

Practicing this mantra cures us of physical disease, if we chant it 108 times near a glass of water (and with correct pronunciation), the water will be blessed with the healing powers of the mantra.

If we recite this mantra every day (minimum of five malas, 1 mala = 108 repetitions), the mantra will purify our negative karma. Also, the daily chanting of the mantra can help the practitioner to overcome physical, mental, and spiritual sickness.

Advice from Lama Zopa Rinpoche:

“If you can recite Bhaisajyaguru mantra as much as you can every day (good to do at least 5 malas), this will purify negative karma and will help you never to be reborn in the lower realms.”

Lama Zopa Rinpoche also stated – ”Besides the benefits you receive from reciting this medicine mantra, also these are the benefits just from hearing the mantra. Thus, this mantra is much more precious than the whole sky full of diamonds and infinite jewels. With this healing mantra, you can liberate numberless sentient beings from oceans of suffering and bring them to enlightenment.

Therefore, again, reciting even one mantra or hearing just once this mantra is much more precious than the sky filled with diamonds, gold, wish-fulfilling jewels and zillions and zillions of dollars.”

The Fifth Precept is about health and healing

Image may contain: 1 person

“In modern life, people think that their body belongs to them and they can do anything they want to it. When they make such a determination, the law supports them. This is one of the manifestations of individualism. But, according to the teachings of emptiness, non-self, and interbeing, your body is not yours alone. It also belongs to your ancestors, your parents, future generations, and all other living beings. Everything, even the trees and the clouds, has come together to bring about the presence of your body. Keeping your body healthy is the best way to express your gratitude to the whole cosmos, to all ancestors, and also not to betray future generations. You practice this precept for everyone. If you are healthy, everyone can benefit from it. When you are able to get out of the shell of your small self, you will see that you are interrelated to everyone and everything, that your every act is linked with the whole of humankind and the whole cosmos. To keep yourself healthy in body and mind is to be kind to all beings. The Fifth Precept is about health and healing.”
