All that we are is the result of what we have thought: it is founded on our thoughts, it is made up of our thought. If we speak or act with an evil thought, pain follows us, as the wheel follows the foot of the ox that draws the carriage.
All that we are is the result of what we have thought: it is founded on our thoughts, it is made up of our thoughts. If we speak or act with a pure thought, happiness follows us, like a shadow that never leaves us.
—Buddha Shakyamuni
Right Thought is the accordance of our thoughts with Right View. It is letting go of attachments, offering happiness to others, and taking away their suffering.
Right Thought frees the intellectual faculties from adverse emotional factors, such as sensuality, ill-will, and cruelty, which render wise and unbiased decisions impossible.
To cultivate Right Thought is to avoid unhealthy states of mind that give rise to suffering ―attachment, aversion, and indifference― and to actively develop compassionate thoughts and positive wishes for others.
